Now that the second round of matches have been completed, we take a look at the best 11 players from the last six days. Chelsea, Fulham, Cardiff City and Liverpool players all feature.
A dramatic second round in the group stages saw the holders Spain eliminated from the tournament with one game to play, as was the case for Australia, Cameroon, England and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The Netherlands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, France, Argentina and Belgium booked their places in the next round with two wins from two and here is the best XI from matchday 2.
GK - Guillermo Ochoa - The Mexican goalkeeper was in inspired form as he helped his side earn a valuable 0-0 draw with Brazil. Ochoa made six saves including two incredible stops from Neymar and Thiago Silva headers and he will look to put in a similar performance in Mexico's key clash with Croatia tonight.
DEF - Gary Medel - The Cardiff City defender was excellent as Chile knocked Spain out of the World Cup with a 2-0 win. Despite his lack of height, Medel was dominant at the back and was always in the right place to win possession back before starting a move for his team.
DEF - Kenneth Omeruo - Chelsea's Nigerian defender was brilliant in his side's 1-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, making four key tackles to keep Edin Dzeko relatively quiet. The 20-year-old has a very bright future ahead.
DEF - Mario Yepes - Colombia's 38-year-old centre-back put in a commanding performance in his 100th appearance for Los Cafeteros and the captain made sure that his side progressed to the next round by resisting a late Ivory Coast attack to win 2-1.
MID - Andre Ayew - Ayew was the best player on the pitch as Ghana earned a point against Germany in an exciting 2-2 draw. The 24-year-old scored with a great header to bring his side back into the game and put so much energy in for his side.
MID - Jermaine Jones - Another solid display from the USA midfielder was capped off with an excellent strike from the edge of the box in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Portugal. Jones won 100% of his aerial duels and is thriving on the biggest stage with the USA.
MID - Blaise Matuidi - Matuidi was dominant in the centre of midfield for France and got the second goal in his side's 5-2 win against Switzerland. The 27-year-old completed 89% of his passes and controlled the game from midfield.
MID - Bryan Ruiz - The Fulham man's header earnt Costa Rica a shock 1-0 win as the CONCACAF side booked their place in the next round against all odds. Ruiz completed 90% of his passes and he is performing very well, something Fulham fans have hardly seen.
FOR - Karim Benzema - Benzema has been sensational so far and was excellent in his side's 5-2 win, scoring one and assisting two. He could have had a hat-trick had he scored his penalty and his last minute goal not ruled out, but the Real Madrid striker is excelling in Brazil.
FOR - Luis Suarez - Suarez single-handedly all but ended England's World Cup with his brace against the Three Lions, and managed to score two goals despite having knee surgery just a month before the game. A superhuman effort from the Liverpool man.
FOR - Mario Mandzukic - Having missed the first game against Brazil with suspension, Mandzukic made an instant impact, scoring twice in his side's 4-0 win against Cameroon. The Bayern Munich striker will look to add more goals to help Croatia beat Mexico and progress into the next round tonight.
