Barack Obama mistaken for England defender Chris Smalling

Barack Obama

A World Cup merchandise company has made the unbelievable error of putting Barack Obama's face on a mug instead of Chris Smalling's

Maybe with Barack Obama in defence England might not have conceded such poor goals in the World Cup due to his strong defence policies.

Obama is probably one of the most recognisable people in the world, yet a company producing World Cup merchandise managed to get him confused with Manchester United and England defender Chris Smalling.

Given the task of trying to source photos of the England squad with no royalty fees attached, one young employee made the horrendous error and then the mug were created with Obama sporting an England shirt. The boss had signed the goods off and they were sent away, presumably he had barely cast an eye over the products.

One presumes the employee doesn't know anything about football or politics for that matter, and whilst Obama looks good for a 52-year-old man he can't quite get away with looking like a 24-year-old defender capable of playing for England. However Smalling doesn't look capable of playing for England either.

The mugs have now been sent off to a wholesale clearance company, and for any fans out there who had always wanted a mug with Barack Obama in an England shirt on, they may now be able to get it for an absolute bargain.

After a disastrous World Cup for England at least this provides a bit of humour for fans who have suffered so far.
