Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has suggested the trust he’s built up with Koke over the past three years could be the Spaniard’s main motive for ignoring transfer speculation.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned as potential destinations along with a possible move to Barcelona to play under new manager Luis Enrique.
However, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, has given a glowing report of the 22-year-old stating his cast iron belief that Koke will become one of the best players in the world.
“He is destined to be one of the best midfielders in the world,” said Simone in an interview for Goal.com.
“I told Koke ‘I don’t have anything but words to convince you that you’re going to be an important player – I won’t tell you to trust me because you don’t know me’ – I told him that three years ago.”
Koke’s decision to show that trust to his current boss is a decision which he’s being paid back for and despite the heartbreak of the Champions League final, last season has to be considered a success for Atletico because of their La Liga triumph.
If Koke was willing to trust a new manager three years ago without knowing him, it would now be a remarkable decision for him to turn his back on the Argentine who has allowed him to develop into one of Spain’s most promising players.
It’s been a relatively easy decision for Koke to ignore the transfer rumours which have recently surrounded him. He’s absolutely guaranteed football at Atletico Madrid, which isn’t the case with some of the sides he’s been linked with.
Chelsea and Barcelona both have players who can play in his position and the Manchester United links have been difficult to understand because they remove the European stage Koke currently has to perform on in terms of the Champions League.
The rumours won’t go away because Koke is a top quality player and the heartbeat of a very strong Spanish club side at the moment.
However, the player has previously said he’s not leaving despite the impressive nature of the interested parties and Simeone’s relationship with him now will definitely be stronger than at the same points three years ago.
