Whenever the Croatian national team is the topic of discussion, images of the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Mario Mandzukic are conjured up.
But as the trio naturally grab the majority of the attention on the Croatian side, Ivan Perisic has made use of the World Cup to steal some of the limelight for himself.
After tallying an impressive 10 goals and four assists for Wolfsburg last season, the 25-year-old has carried over his good form into the tournament in Brazil as a standout performer for the Vatreni.

And it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Everton reportedly enquired with Wolfsburg early last week over a possible £8 million deal, seeing him as a natural replacement for departing loan star Gerard Deulofeu.
Naturally, the Toffees aren’t the only outfit that have been alerted to Perisic’s talent, however. Napoli have also taken an interest in the Croatian, and agent Toni Martic has now confirmed talks with the Serie A giants.
Martic told AreaNapoli.it: “Personally, I am in regular contact with Napoli for my clients, including Perisic, who I can confirm is a target for [sporting director Riccardo] Bigon."
“Perisic has many admirers in Italy. He’s happy at Wolfsburg, but if the clubs can reach an agreement he’d be pleased to play in Serie A.”
Everton would be well advised to act fast in order to beat out rivals for Perisic. Napoli’s open contact with Martic suggests they’re keen to push a deal through quickly .
If Perisic continues to produce in Brazil, his price-tag will only go up and the Partenopei seem all too aware of this. Of course, Everton know this as well, but how explicit their interest is remains unclear, whilst Napoli’s is evidently concrete.
