Carlos Vela's future appears far more certain - and it looks like he will be staying at Real Sociedad rather than returning to Arsenal.
Reports in Spain claim a deal is being done for Vela to sign a new contract with Sociedad, which will not involve a buy-
The Mexican was non-committal on talks linking him back to the Gunners, and he can't be blamed for wanting to stay in Spain, where he has netted 34 goals in the past two seasons.
One player clearly delighted this is his club-mate, Antoine Griezmann.
He told reporters, reported by Marca: "He's a top player; there's no one better. We have a great relationship on and off the pitch because we're good friends"
Adding further, "Yes, I think he is at Benzema's level."
Griezmann went onto suggest he is happy to stay at Sociedad too, although he himself remains linked with Arsenal.
His comments on Vela emphasise what a top level player Arsenal originally let go, and have potentially allowed to slip through their fingers again.
If he stays at Sociedad, it's because he has not been made to feel wanted enough by Arsenal, for if Arsene Wenger promised him a regular role, surely the lure of Champions League football and chance to re-write an unfinished chapter for him, would have tempted him to rejoin.
For a bargain price of around £3 million, it's a deal the Gunners should have pushed harder on.
