Reported Arsenal target Jackson Martinez could still renew his contract with current club FC Porto according to reports.
The Colombian striker has been in outstanding form for the Portuguese side. But with a contract that only runs until the summer of 2016, there had been suggestions he would be on the move.
Valencia were believed to be in the box-seat. However the player’s agent previously stated that Arsenal were also heavily interested in a player who has scored 60 club goals in the last two seasons.
But now Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims the striker is at something of a crossroads, with his agent quoted as saying, “Porto still wish to negotiate the renewal of Jackson.”
That is no surprise given his importance to them, but the report goes on to claim that the player knows any renewal could see his hopes of a future move dashed, with the likelihood of an increased release-clause included in any new contract.
The paper claims Jackson is weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of signing a new deal with the Primeira Liga side, as he allegedly feels that could put him out of the reach of other clubs in the future.
But some will argue that £33.2million is already steep for a player who may not be able to transfer his form to another country.
For now it remains speculation, but if Arsene Wenger is still interested in the 27-year-old, he may want to move now or not at all.
