Real Madrid transfer news: Verratti and Kovacic deals close, Khedira to United still possible

All the latest transfer news coming out of Madrid, including Manchester United-linked midfielder Sami Khedira.

We bring you all the latest news coming out of the Spanish capital, including two deals in the pipeline for central midfielders and Manchester United-linked Sami Khedira’s future in the balance.

According to reports in Italy, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen for the club to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

The duo know each other well from Ancelotti’s stint in the French capital as boss of PSG, and the 21-year-old’s feelings for his mentor remain as strong as ever.

Los Blancos are reportedly willing to offer €40 million for the Italian international, yet the Ligue 1 champions are said to prefer a player swap – with Benzema and Di Maria named – instead of a cash deal.

Both players, however, are deemed indispensable to Real Madrid, and it’s looking increasingly likely that a straight big-money cash deal will be enough to prize him away.

Another midfielder strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu is 20-year-old Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian international currently plies his trade with Serie A giants Inter Milan, yet his future is in doubt after the club missed out on Champions League football.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested, and according to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the latter said to be in contact with his agents over a proposed €25 million move.

Such deals for the two midfielders will no doubt leave a huge question mark over fellow Real Madrid star Sami Khedira.

The German international has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils in the midst of addressing their midfield issues ahead of next season.

New United boss Louis Van Gaal is a big fan of the 27-year-old, and a report in today’s edition of Marca suggests that a bid of €40 million for the star would be sufficient for the club to sell.

With Man United expected to be heavily backed financially this summer, it appears that this transfer is extremely plausible – but only if the Old Trafford outfit want it.
