Germany didn’t come away with an ideal result in drawing 2-2 against Ghana on Saturday evening, but nonetheless Die Mannschaft had some personal achievements to celebrate.
Miroslav Klose came off the bench to match Ronaldo’s record haul of 15 World Cup goals with a point-grabbing equaliser, scored with his first touch of the ball.
Meanwhile, Per Mertesacker took up his usual place in Jogi Low’s starting eleven, reaching a significant milestone with his 100th senior appearance for his country.
And social media aficionado Lukas Podolski - a member of Arsenal’s German contingent alongside Mertesacker - commemorated the hulking centre-back’s achievement in typical style.
Podolski took to Twitter to post a ‘selfie’ of himself and the ‘BFG’, showing his enthusiasm at the 29-year-old reaching the century mark for international caps.
Mertesacker has joined an exclusive group that contains active Germany stars Klose, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Podolski himself - his accomplishment quite an impressive one considering the wealth of talent that his nation have been able to count on since his Die Mannschaft debut in 2004.
