Eden Hazard reveals secret to beating Russia, praises another Chelsea star

Romelu Lukaku's role in Belgium's victory has been praised by Eden Hazard.

Surprise squad pick Divock Origi stole the headlines for Belgium in their late win over Russia, but Eden Hazard suggests the player he replaced deserves credit.

Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku is still searching for his first World Cup goal after two starts, but he has been credited with allowing Origi to score the winner, despite not being on the pitch at the time.

Winger and provider of the goal, Eden Hazard, explained: "Their defense was tired and so we could make a difference.

"Romelu Lukaku? I said in the locker room that Lukaku had not had a lot of services. He first made the Russians tired, so Origi could score."

There may be some credence to that regarding the play of last season's Everton loanee, whose physical approach wears down the opposition, which Belgium were able to take advantage of in the dying stages.

Lukaku is a player who gives it his all, although won less aerial duels than he lost, certainly made Russia work hard for it. There won't have been a Russia defender who enjoyed the challenge.

Hazard's comments illustrate his contribution is not overlooked despite his lack of goals, and even with Origi staking his claim, Belgium may not be casting their first choice forward aside just yet.
