All the latest news and gossip from Stamford Bridge this morning.
The deal that will see Diego Costa come to Stamford Bridge is nearing completion but it appears Los Colchoneros are intent on having a Belgian Chelsea player on loan at the club.
On this occasion it is not however Thibaut Courtois, but Romelu Lukaku. The striker, who spent last season on loan at Everton, has already admitted a desire to quit Stamford Bridge this summer - because of Costa's impending arrival.
Chelsea are reportedly not keen on selling the striker outright - instead merely wanting to send him out on loan after Atletico Madrid baulked at their £35 million asking price.
It is also hoped that allowing Lukaku to join the club on loan will help make a transaction for left-back Filipe Luis go much smoother.
Jose Mourinho has been speaking about new signing Cesc Fabregas. The former Arsenal captain was signed earlier this month as a replacement for the outgoing Frank Lampard - and Mourinho is pleased with his signature, stating:
"He is the kind of player we need - not just for his qualities as a player but also his competitive personality. He is a player in the best years of his career. He knows England well, he knows the Premier League well, so he will not need time to adapt. He is the kind of player who will come and train for a couple of weeks and be ready to prove himself."
Meanwhile, the Chelsea boss believes Frank Lampard could one day lead the club as a successful manager. The club's record goalscorer is leaving on a free transfer this summer but Mourinho is in no doubt that he will one day return to the club:
"I do not think he is leaving. I think he is just going for a ride somewhere and then he is coming back very, very soon because that’s what the owner wants, that’s what he [Lampard] wants – what everybody wants. Whatever he wants, whenever he wants. I repeat Mr Abramovich’s words – I will have him doing anything. The door is open for such a big guy in our club."
