Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Campbell and Balotelli performance in Costa Rica win

Cole and Balotelli England Italy

Joel Campbell and Mario Balotelli went head-to-head yesterday at the World Cup. Which potential Arsenal striker was the better?

This summer is surely the summer that Arsenal finally bring in a new striker. Last season saw Olivier Giroud toil away all on his own in the striker department while the rumour mill suggested several potential replacements.

One name being linked with a move to The Emirates is Italian superstar Mario Balotelli. The former Manchester City striker is said to be open on a move to North London in order to play Champions League football next season.

AC Milan reportedly want £29 million for the player, but that is not all they want - as they are also said to want Costa Rican star Joel Campbell thrown into any potential deal.

Which brings us to the Costa Rica v Italy game yesterday at the World Cup.

Once again, against all odds and opinions the 'minnows' from CONCACAF revelled in the humidity against their European counterparts - securing qualification to the next stage with a 1-0 win courtesy of Fulham playmaker Bryan Ruiz.

It also saw these two strikers going head to head - with both of them potentially being future striking options at The Emirates.

Campbell is already a Arsenal player and has revealed his desire to play for The Gunners next season. Meanwhile Thierry Henry, the club's record goal-scorer, has also put his weight behind calls for Campbell to get a chance at the club next season.

But Balotelli has the star factor, the impact buy, and is undoubtedly an impressive talent.

Both players shone in the opening games for their country at the tournament, in fact, both players scored. But they both had tougher second games. Although Campbell was unlucky not to get a penalty in the first half. Balotelli on the other hand should have scored. He had several chances in the opening sparring, including an attempted lob he should have put away.

But he cut a dejected figure for much of the game, while Campbell continued to impress as a lone striker - leaving Juventus star Giorgio Chiellini red-face on more than one occasion. if anything, you could argue Campbell looked the more impressive.

But what did Arsenal fans think on Twitter?

Here are some of the best Tweets from the game...
