PHOTO: Tottenham Hotspur winger looks depressed with his World Cup role

Andros Townsend of Tottenham Hotspur looked depressed to only be pitchside as England took on Uruguay.

If ever a picture paints a thousand words...

Last Autumn winger Andros Townsend appeared such a certainty for England's World Cup squad, the only debate was whether he should be in the starting line-up.

After a wondrous goal on his debut there were a fair few backing that call, but an injury put paid to his hopes of making his first ever tournament finals.

Townsend was invited along with ITV to be a pundit for the occasion, and was brought down to pitchside for pre-game interviews with the channel's reserve present Matt Smith.

The winger answered the questions put to him professionally enough, and he's certainly grateful to have been invited out there.

But being on the very pitch he envisioned tearing up and down, creating history and achieving his dream, seemed to bring home to him just how close he was, and he looked quite depressed.
