We bring you the latest news from Sunderland, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough

We bring you all the biggest news involving the clubs in the North-East that has broken in the last 24 hours.

1) Swansea to battle with Sunderland for Marcos Alonso

Swansea City are looking to swoop in ahead of Sunderland to sign Marcos Alonso, according to reports.

Alonso is a known transfer target of Gus Poyet after impressing on loan at the Stadium Of Light last season and it originally appeared that the Spaniard was all set to make the move permanent this summer.

However, Swansea’s interest adds a complication to the transfer and means that it may be a costly purchase than initially thought.

2) Adam Johnson to remain at Sunderland

Adam Johnson is set to stay at Sunderland, despite interest from Liverpool and Everton this summer.

Johnson has had a troubled time on Wearside since making the move from Manchester City, but began to show something like his best form towards the back-end of last campaign.

And it is thought that he has now convinced Gus Poyet that he can still be a key player for his side in the future, meaning the club are loathed to allow him to depart unless a huge offer comes in.

3) Ayoze Perez could end Newcastle’s hunt for a goalscorer

Alan Pardew has been on the search all summer for a striker, but has revealed today that Ayoze Perez, a summer signing from Tenerife, could be the answer to his problems.

Perez was thought to have been brought in as a player for future seasons, but Pardew believes the Spaniard could have a part to play in the upcoming campaign.

The 20-year-old has not played much first-team football in his career so far, but still did enough to convince Newcastle to part with £1.8 million to sign him and Pardew is keen to test him out in the Premier League.

“He’s slight, and has a bit of work to do in terms of his body and getting up to speed in the Premier League,” Pardew explained to the Gazette.

“But he’s a fantastic talent. He’s scored a lot of goals, and we have high hopes for him.

“We hope he has a breakthrough season for us.”

4) Vernon Anita is happy with the way last season went for Newcastle United

Newcastle United midfielder Vernon Anita says he was relatively pleased with last season’s performance.

Many fans of the Magpies were disappointed with the club’s performance last campaign, with a particularly poor 2014 meaning they did not show any signs of competing for European places.

However, the Dutchman was happy that the side made a top ten finish and feels that they can push on from that next season.

"It was a season of ups and down but I think it was a quite good season overall," he said to the club’s official site.

"Our goal was to finish in the top ten, which we have to be happy with.

"It was better than (the 2012/13 sason), so we are improving and we hope for next season to be even better again.

"We want more consistency. We would like to improve and finish in the top six."

5) Derby County and Wigan Athletic aiming to sign Lukas Jutkiewicz

Derby County and Wigan Athletic are both hoping to sign Lukas Jutkiewicz from Middlesbrough.

The centre-forward spent last season on loan at Bolton, who are also interested in making his transfer permanent.

It is thought that ‘Boro want around £1 million for the 25-year-old, but with three clubs interested they are hoping it will spark a bidding war and raise that price even further.
