Lewis Hamilton fastest in second practice at Red Bull Ring

Lewis Hamilton 2014

Lewis Hamilton topped the times in second practice for the Austrian Grand Prix, beating Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

The Silver Arrows were again a class apart on the Red Bull Ring circuit, with Hamilton's 1m09.542s outdoing Rosberg by an impressive four tenths of a second.

That put the Brit almost a second clear of the chasing pack, making an eighth successive pole for the German squad very likely tomorrow afternoon.

Fernando Alonso was best of the rest, just as he was in the morning session, setting a 1m10.470s to take third. The Ferrari driver was again comfortably ahead of his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, who could only manage 11th.

Williams continued their strong start to the weekend with Valtteri Bottas fourth and Felipe Massa fifth. Meanwhile the Red Bulls made strides following their disappointing morning session with Sebastian Vettel sixth and Daniel Ricciardo eighth.

Jenson Button split them in seventh spot, while his McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen was ninth and Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso) was once again tenth.
