Daniel Sturridge has sent an encouraging Tweet to the Italian players this afternoon.
England need Italy to win this afternoon against Costa Rica if they are to have any chance of progressing into the latter stages of the FIFA World Cup. England are currently bottom of the group on zero points after a 2-1 defeat against Uruguay last night, both goals coming from Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and at the start of play every other team in the group had three points.
So England need Italy to beat Costa Rica and Uruguay to stand any chance of progression - they also need to bag a few goals in the process.
So the English public are backing the Azzurri this afternoon, which was clearly evident when Gary Lineker greeted viewers eyes in the BBC studio in an Italy shirt.
But it is not just the fans hoping Italia do us a favour, the England players are in the same boat.
And Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has made that very clear on Twitter after this post was shared before the game.
Let's hope Italy can do the job for Liverpool man Sturridge, and England - as Costa Rica have taken a 1-0 lead before half-time.
