Chelsea transfer news: Arsenal want Blues defender, Schurrle happy

A round-up of transfer stories about Chelsea this morning.

Arsenal want to sign Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, according to latest reports.

The Metro claims that reports in Serbia have stated that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger wants to recruit the 30-year-old if Belgian centre-back Vermaelen leaves for Manchester United this summer.

There have been recent suggestions that the 28-year-old wants to leave the Emirates Stadium in search of regular playing time, and United have emerged as his next destination.

This has reportedly spurred on Arsenal to look for a replacement, and they have apparently identified Ivanovic, who is largely a right-back but can also play as a central defender.

Meanwhile, Andre Schurrle has stated that he has “loved” his debut season in the Premier League.

The Germany international attacker joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

‘I’ve loved it’, the 23-year-old told talkSPORT. ‘I wanted to leave Germany to test myself, and Chelsea has been a fantastic experience that has allowed me to develop as a player. The fans have welcomed me so quickly, and I really enjoy being at this club and playing for these fans’.

Diego Costa seems set to join Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks, but former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has claimed that other clubs have nothing to worry about the forward.

The 25-year-old failed to make an impact for Spain at the ongoing 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, having headed into the tournament on the back of a brilliant 2013-14 campaign for Atletico.

‘In the games I’ve watched, both domestically and internationally, I’ve not seen anything in Costa that makes me think, you are unbelievable’, he told talkSPORT. ‘I know he’s been injured, and has probably been rushed back, but I haven’t seen a spark, that sharpness or any sort of finishing quality. Even if you’re injured, you hit the target’.
