Barcelona midfielder Alex Song's World Cup has ended early after a senseless red card in Cameroon's second group game.
The former Arsenal man was handed an straight red card after an unexpected off-the-ball incident where he lashed out at the back of Mario Mandzukic's head.
Mandzukic, of Bayern Munich, has been linked with a summer transfer target to Arsenal, and went down as if pole-axed by Song.
With Cameroon 1-0 down at the time, Song's actions could be described as rash and stupid.
It should not be totally unexpected however; Song's moment of madness is one which runs in his family.
His uncle Rigobert Song, was sent off for Cameroon at both the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, and between them they have now amassed three of eight of the country's sending off's at the tournament.
