Feyenoord and Barcelona stars feature in a potential Manchester United side for next season.
We won’t get a full picture of Manchester United’s transfer plans until after the World Cup when Louis van Gaal can fully concentrate on his new job.
United have been linked with some very good players as the rumour mill continues to spin round but it’ll be interesting to see who actually signs on the dotted line and moves to Old Trafford.
We’ve taken a look at the latest rumours and stories to try and predict the United side for next season.
GK – David De Gea
De Gea hasn’t featured for Spain in an unsuccessful World Cup defence but he will definitely keep his number one slot at United.
RB – Daryl Janmaat
Janmaat is one of the Dutch stars linked with following van Gaal to United. He’s played consistently for the last couple of years and would be a good right-back option.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones could find himself installed on the right side of central defence by LvG. He’s one of the most talented defensive players United have but he needs to produce better consistency.
CB – Thomas Vermaelen
Reports earlier this week suggested that a deal had been agreed in principle for United to sign the Belgian. He’s a good experience option to have coming in.
LB – Daley Blind
Blind is another of the Dutch stars to have been linked with United. He gives LvG two options; a solid left-back and someone who can play a holding midfield role.
RM – Antonio Valencia
LvG seems to like players who work hard and Valencia definitely falls into that category. He’s not the most cutting edge of wingers but he’s extremely quick and offers defensive work going back towards his own goal.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick was one of United’s most consistent players last season. His ability to control the ball and make it difficult for the opposition to play means LvG may use him regularly.
CM – Juan Mata
Mata has all the ability in the world to be able to sit and control the pace and flow of United’s midfield play. He starts.
AM – Wayne Rooney
LvG could tell Rooney to become the best number ten in the Premier League. He’’ start but RVP is LvG’s man at the top of the attack.
LM – Alexis Sanchez
The Barcelona star is a player regularly linked with a move to United. He’d be a fantastic signing on the left hand side and someone who can provide a real cutting edge going forward.
ST – Robin Van Persie
Van Persie looks like a different player under LvG than the figure who worked for David Moyes. Van Persie is likely to start spearheading the attack and if he goes on a roll, his confidence and momentum will be sky high.
