Predicted Liverpool XI for next season: Including Shaqiri and Moreno

A Bayern Munich midfield star and a Sevilla defender both feature.

Brendan Rodgers will have a variety of challenges to contend with next season as Liverpool head into the Premier League season as one of the favourites to lift the title.

Liverpool’s impressive brand of attacking football last season won them plenty of admirers and there will also be a big challenge in terms of the Champions League.

Rodgers needs to improve various areas of the squad, but he’s been linked with signing some very good players and we’ve taken a look at the rumours, attempting to name the Liverpool team for next season.

GK – Simon Mignolet

The Belgian responded every time he was challenged last season and he’ll keep his place.

RB – Jon Flanagan

Flanagan may get the nod ahead of Glen Johnson because he’ll be fresher after the World Cup. Sides tried, and failed, to focus on Flanagan as a weakness last season but he played superbly.

CB – Martin Skrtel

Skrtel is one of the most experienced players at the club. He has a no nonsense style of defending which will be important.

CB – Mamadou Sakho

The Frenchman has started the World Cup well in the French defence and he looks like a more confident player than the man who first wore a Liverpool shirt. He starts.

LB – Alberto Moreno

Liverpool need a left-back and while speculation rolls on over where Moreno will be playing next season, Rodgers still has a great chance of signing him.

RM – Xherdan Shaqiri

Talks have reportedly started for the Bayern Munich winger to move to Anfield. He can play down either side of the midfield but could start on the right.

CM – Jordan Henderson

Henderson starts because he’s one of the most versatile players the club has. He can cover for any midfielder caught out of position.

CM – Steven Gerrard

The only reason Gerrard won’t start in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield next season is if he gets injured at the World Cup playing for England.

AM – Raheem Sterling

Rodgers may choose to use Sterling in behind the main striker where he occasionally played last season. He has the potential to be a destructive player as a number ten.

LM – Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge may be started on the left but he won’t always stay there. Expect to see him nudging forward and linking up with Luis Suarez any chance he gets.

ST – Luis Suarez

Suarez starts up front every game he’s fit and available for the club next season.
