Higuain Goal

On the 19th June 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Liverpool and Arsenal.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 19th June 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 19th June 2013…

Arsenal bring Higua-In

One of the summer's transfer saga's last summer looked like coming to an end. Arsenal were after a new striker to complement Frenchman Olivier Giroud up front at The Emirates who was the club's only main striker option.

The player in question was Real Madrid's Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain - who had made his desire to leave The Bernabeu very clear.

It was reported that the club's were now only left to agree on a fee after the player and his father, acting as advisor, had agreed personal terms on an Emirates switch - with wages of £130k-a-week on the table.

Of course absolutely none of this ever happened. Arsenal got it in their heads they could sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool and swiftly gave up on Higuain - who joined Napoli.

A year down the line and Arsenal are being linked in a similar fashion to former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli while poor Higuain is in the papers again - as Barcelona look to lure him away from Italy.

Pay up 'pool

Liverpool were told to stump up the cash for Sevilla's talented youngster Luis Alberto. The attacking midfielder, who had spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona's B team was heavily sought after across Europe after an exceptional campaign in the Liga Adelante.

Liverpool had already bid £5.5 million for the player - however Sevilla were standing firm on their asking price, asking for an extra £1.5 million to make the deal complete.

In the end Liverpool buckled, paying £6.8 million for his services the next day to bring him to the club.

Alberto has not shone in his first season - gaining most of his attention of the pitch, with a conviction for drink-driving.
