Brighter times for Van Gaal than for Moyes?

Last season David Moyes was quite vocal in his displeasure at the start he was handed as Manchester United boss, with trips to Liverpool and Manchester City, along with a home game against Chelsea in his opening five Premier League matches after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson. For his successor, on paper at least, it's a lot easier.

United face up to the three Premier League newboys in their opening five games under their new manager Louis van Gaal, but they will be wary of the last time they faced Burnley after they were just promoted to the Premier League - they lost 1-0 to a terrific Robbie Blake strike at Turf Moor.

Van Gaal will be looking to get off to a good start in order to take some momentum into the more difficult looking periods of October/November time - during which period  he experiences the Manchester derby for the first time at the Etihad Stadium.

United face Liverpool in December, and there's a potentially tricky Christmas period with trips to Tottenham and Stoke City. March and April will be a big test for United if they want to get back into the top four, or challenge for the title with trips to Anfield, Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park, along with a Manchester derby at Old Trafford. The eye-catching fixture in the last month of the campaign is their last home game against Arsenal, which could potentially be vital in both side's seasons.
