Arsenal transfer news: Lavezzi targeted, 'next Ozil' going elsewhere

Lavezzi

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Arsenal are said to be looking at the possibility of signing Argentine international forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Paris Saint-Germain attacker, who impressed against Chelsea in the Champions League last season.

The former Napoli player, who is currently at the World Cup with La Albiceleste, is however a regular at Parc des Princes - making 43 appearances last term.

Meaning he is not going to be cheap - with a fee in the region of £15 million already being mooted.

Arsenal, along with Liverpool, are being linked with a move for Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. The stopper was sensational in the World Cup game against Brazil last night - making several sensational saves to hold off the hosts to a 0-0 draw.

The talented shot-stopper is available on a free transfer after his contract at relegated Ligue 1 side AC Ajaccio expired this summer. However, despite their apparent keenness to sign the player he is widely expected to remain in France - with the likes of Lyon and Marseille being linked with his signature.

Arsenal's pursuit of 'the next Mesut Ozil' looks to be over, after Bayer Leverkusen announced they had reached an agreement with the player.

Bayer managing director Michael Schade stated:

"He has accepted our offer verbally and wants to join us. He said that clearly in Hamburg. Calhanoglu wants to be part of our team and what we are building here."

Now it is just down to them and his club Hamburg to agree a fee.

Yesterday saw long-term target Julian Draxler confirm he rejected Arsenal in January and would again if asked this summer.

The Schalke 04 attacker was heavily linked with The Gunners in January - with a £37 million offer in the pipeline.

But Draxler said:

"In January, there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay. I will do the same this summer. I want to play one year more in Schalke."
