Arsenal may have a battle on their hands to keep hold of their club captain Thomas Vermaelen. It was reported at the weekend that Manchester United were keen on signing the player to strengthen their cntre back options - which have been left flaky after the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand this summer.
Now it is believed Vermaelen has told friends he would welcome a move to Old Trafford. The Belgian international, currently representing his country at the World Cup, has lost his regular place in the Arsenal team over the course of the past 18 months - following the emergence of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker as the lead central defensive pairing.
However Arsene Wenger is said to be set on keeping hold of the versatile defender regardless of his apparent unhappiness and United's interest.
He is set to offer the player a new contract to remain a Gunner but he is believed to have his 'heart set' on a move to Old Trafford.
The Carlos Vela saga looks like finally coming to an end. The Real Sociedad man has been linked with a move back to The Gunners this summer as they have a cheap buy-back clause in the Mexican's contract.
However, reports in Spain suggest the club have offered Vela a new deal after agreeing a £10 million deal to cancel his buyback clause at The Emirates.
The deal will reportedly be announced next week.
Arsenal know who they will take on and when in the Premier League next season - after the fixture list was announced earlier today. The Gunners start the campaign against Crystal Palace and finish against West Brom.
They take on fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the 27th September 2014 (home) and 7th February 2015 (away).
