Italian side Fiorentina making moves for €8 million Liverpool target

Arsenal V Marseille Valbuena

Liverpool have often been linked with a move for Mathieu Valbuena. Now his performances are alerting other clubs to his availability.

Mathieu Valbuena was always set to have an excellent World Cup, and in the opening game against Honduras he didn’t disappoint. Now his agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, is talking up his client, and has revealed that the Liverpool target has offers from two or three clubs, including Italian side Fiorentina.

The diminutive playmaker could be available for around €8 million this summer and in the last few weeks his performances for France have made it clear that he is still at the top of his game.

Before the World Cup in the warm-up game against Norway the midfielder was the best player on the park, setting up three of France’s four goals. Although he started on the right-wing, he is given the license of the pitch and more often than not he makes things happen.

He has continued this form against Paraguay, Jamaica and on Sunday as France romped 3-0 past an aggressive Honduran side.

What Valbuena has shown for France is how versatile he can be in attack. His experience, big game mentality and ability to play anywhere along the front-line would be a huge addition to Brendan Rodgers side.

The 29-year-old is gifted with both feet and his low centre of gravity gives him the ability to change direction and bamboozle his opponents.

Valbuena would also bring the experience of over 330 games for Marseille and 45 games in the Champions League. That experience could be vital for Liverpool next season, not many of the current squad can boast the same amount of games at the highest level.

Valbuena’s performances in this World Cup will be crucial to how far France can go, and with every great performance the Marseille midfielder puts in, the amount of clubs interested in him will rise.

For such a bargain price, a team like Liverpool would be mad to let an opportunity like this slip through their fingers. He may not be the name the Liverpool fans expect, but any move for Valbuena is low risk, but with very high rewards.

Bernes is trying to get the best deal for his client. However, he is just trying to get Valbuena the big club move that he deserves.
