Everton's outstanding season under Roberto Martinez was reflected in the England squad, as boss Roy Hodgson selected Toffees trio Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Ross Barkley in his 23-man squad to take to Brazil. They were handed a surprise this week as Everton manager Martinez met up with the players in Brazil, and Jagielka revealed that the Spaniard has helped the trio ahead of their game against Uruguay on Thursday.
"We’ve seen the gaffer and we had a good chat with him, the three of us here," said Jagielka. "It was nice to see him, he's over here for quite a lot of the World Cup and he gave us a lot of positives, a lot of support."
Meanwhile, Everton will be busy planning for the summer and pre-season, and they revealed part of their plans today. Newly promoted Leicester City will face the Toffees in Bangkok this summer, and chief executive Robert Elstone says that they will provide a stern test before the Premier League season.
"Leicester showed last year they have the infrastructure and resources to compete at the highest level," he said. "We look forward to testing ourselves against them as we get ready for what we hope will be another memorable campaign in both the Premier League and Europe."
Part of the pre-season plans will involve their transfer window activity, and a number of players have already been linked with moves to Merseyside as Martinez looks to add to his squad ahead of the club's Europa League campaign. Following the success of Gerard Deulofeu during his loan spell from Barcelona, the Catalan giants are reportedly looking to continue the partnership between the two clubs, and fellow wide man Cristian Tello is allegedly on Everton's radar.
