Former Manchester City striker and Costa Rica legend Paulo Wanchope believes that Joel Campbell is the man to lead the line for Arsenal in the next Premier League season.
Wanchope, who is the second-most prolific scorer to ever play for the Ticos, thinks that Campbell is ready to make the jump to the top flight of English football after impressing on loan at Olimpiacos last season.
But he stopped short of putting pressure on Arsene Wenger to give the striker his chance, saying it is the Arsenal manager's decision.
"That's something that he [Wenger] has to decide," the 37-year-old said. "We know that Joel is a great player and he is capable to play at Arsenal but it is not my decision it's the decision of the manager."
He added: "For sure I know that he's looking at him at this World Cup and hopefully he'll have the chance to make the preseason with Arsenal."
Campbell made a big impression in Greek football last season. He netted 11 times and came through on Europe's biggest stage with a stunning strike against Manchester United in the Champions League knockout stages.
He again put his name in the headlines in Costa Rica's surprise victory over Uruguay in the World Cup Group D opener. Campbell drilled home the equaliser before playing an exquisite pass to set up the third goal in the 3-1 win, which put the Ticos top of the group.
With games against Italy and England still to come, Costa Rica still face a battle to get out of one of the toughest groups in the tournament. But with Campbell on this sort of form, the Central American side could still have a major say in who qualify from Group D for the latter stages.
