With Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa's £32 million move to Chelsea nearing completion, Atletico Madrid have already set their sights on a top class replacement.
Last season's La Liga champions need someone who has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Spanish league; Costa had an incredible 2013/14 season scoring 28 La Liga goals and finishing second on the scoring charts, only to be beaten to top spot by 31-goal man Cristiano Ronaldo.
Negredo would fit that bill perfectly. Playing for Spanish side Sevilla between 2009-2013 he scored 85-goals in 185 appearances in all competitions.
The striker, who surprisingly missed out on a place in the Spain World Cup squad, made a £20 million move to the Etihad Stadium last July and has had an impressive debut season in the Premier League.
His 23 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions, and his formidable partnership with Argentinian forward Sergio Aguero was seen as the driving force behind City's eventual League Cup and Premier League title win.
However he did go off the boil somewhat as the season drew to a close, with his partner in crime Aguero suffering with a recurring hamstring injury.
Manchester City would loathe to lose Negredo after just one season; with rumours circulating that Edin Dzeko might seek first-team football elsewhere, and Aguero injury proneness, any sales without new signings would leave them quite short up-front.
