Former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan has said that Uruguay need Luis Suarez to be playing on Thursday in their crucial Group D game against England, where defeat for either side could mean elimination from the World Cup.
Suarez sat out Uruguay's shock 3-1 opening defeat to Costa Rica as he recovers from a meniscus operation he had prior to the World Cup.
Given that the Uruguayans are now up against it in Group D, the likelihood that Suarez will play against England on Thursday evening has increased, and team-mate Forlan has said it is really important that the man who struck 31 times in the Premier League for Liverpool plays in Sao Paulo.
He said: "Every player is desperate to play every game and he’s the same.
“It’s really important he plays against England. Hopefully he can train well and he can be ready for the game.”
There will be an awful lot of pressure on the shoulders of Suarez going into this game. Whilst they have quality going forward in Edinson Cavani, it was clear that Suarez's absence when Uruguay were chasing the game against Costa Rica was a big void within the side.
England know Suarez very well from his exploits with Liverpool in the Premier League and will be on their guard, particularly with the strong contingent from the English runners-up within the Three Lions' camp.
There is probably a lot of burden on Suarez's shoulders going into this game, especially given reports prior to Saturday's game that he may not start the England match if results went in favour of Uruguay, now he's looked to as the man who can save their World Cup whilst question marks still remain over his fitness.
Liverpool fans will want him to get through the game unscathed, but under high pressure, it's expected to be an environment that Suarez will thrive in. The question is can he get Uruguay through, and break English hearts?
