Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup dream is halfway to ruin, after Portugal were battered 4-0 by Germany.
Even before Pepe's crazy first half red card, the Germans were on course to victory, and concerns over Ronaldo's sharpness and match fitness were not doused, despite him lasting 90 minutes.
At the end of the game, Ronaldo was consoled by German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger - a summer transfer target for Manchester United.
Schweinsteiger was an unused substitute in the win, but took to the field to celebrate with his teammates afterwards, once he had spent a bit of time chatting to a clearly crestfallen Cristiano Ronaldo.
The duo have sparred in battles between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in recent seasons, most recently it was Ronaldo coming out on top.
This time around his mood cannot have been more different than when he led his side to a crushing win at the Allianz Arena two months ago.
Portugal must bounce back in games against USA and Ghana, if they fail to and Ronaldo does not shine, he won't be able to escape the criticism.
Whether it is deserved or not, as the Ballon d'Or winner and with top stars racking up the goals this tournament already, Ronaldo has just two games to turn it around or face an early return home.
