Nigeria's Group F campaign got underway in Curitiba tonight, and had all the expectation on their shoulders as minnows Iran faced up against them. Yet the game was devoid of any real quality, and it was no surprise to see the game end in a dour 0-0 draw.
Much was made before the game of Nigeria's dangerous front three of Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and Chelsea's Moses, but the trio failed to have any impact on the game at all. Moses in particular is in need of a strong World Cup having failed during his season-long loan spell with Liverpool, but he was hauled off after just 52 minutes for Shola Ameobi.
Having done very little whilst with the Reds, there will be no permanent deal in the offing for the former Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic winger, and his poor showing in Brazil has all but guaranteed that he won't be returning to Anfield - and Liverpool fans on Twitter were unsurprised to see Moses disappoint once again.
Here are some of the tweets from Liverpool fans about Moses' dismal display.
And Victor Moses as useless for his country as he was for us, it appears... #LFC— Liverpool Canuck (@liverpoolcanuck) June 16, 2014
Glad we didn't sign Moses. Our best business this transfer window. #LFC— Connor (@LFCkeepthefaith) June 16, 2014
