Out of favour for both his club and country, Hatem Ben Arfa could be tempted by a big-money move to the Middle East with Al-Sadd.
Hatem Ben Arfa’s time at Newcastle United always looked likely to be come to an end this summer, following a bust-up with Alan Pardew, but it would appear that the 27-year-old is also willing to give up on any hopes of a recall for France with a move to Qatar in the offing.
According to various reports, the attacking midfielder has been the subject of some interest from the Middle East club where Real Madrid legend Raul currently plays.
Al Sadd are believed to be keen on recruiting Ben Arfa on a bumper contract alongside Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi.
Raul has certainly enjoyed his time in the region, scoring 11 goals in 39 appearances for Al AlaMI, roughly translated as The World Class, during his two seasons with the team.
It would mark a notable change of scenery for Ben Arfa, who spent the entirety of his career in France prior to his move to Newcastle, playing for the likes of Marseille and Lyon.
And should no other Premier League side express an interest in recruiting the talented French star, then Ben Arfa may just take up Al-Sadd’s offer, a move that would effectively end any hope of a return to the France national team fold in the near future.
Asamoah Gyan undertook a similar switch back in July 2012, when he moved from Sunderland to Al Ain, signing a contract that has seen him earn over £140,000 a week after tax.
Ben Arfa has not featured for France under Didier Deschamps, with his last game for Les Bleus coming against Sweden in the group stage.
