CONFIRMED: Germany v Portugal line-ups - Arsenal star starts!

Lukas Podolski Germany

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil got the nod ahead of Lukas Podolski as Germany and Portugal meet for their first World Cup game.

Germany: Neuer, Howedes, Hummels, Khedira, Ozil, Muller, Lahm, Mertesacker, Kroos, Gotze, Boateng

Portugal: Patricio, Alves, Pepe, Veloso, Coentrao, Ronaldo, Moutinho, Almeida, Meireles, Nani, Pereira

Germany and Portugal get their World Cup campaigns under way in arguably the pick of the first round of fixtures.

It’s not been plain sailing for Germany in the build up to Brazil, with Manchester United transfer target Marco Reus suffering an ankle problem, which saw him ruled out of the tournament.

That’s provided Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski with a chance to step up, with Germany fans recently voting Podolski as the player they’d like to see come into the team.

Portugal’s build up to the game has focused on whether superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be available or whether he’ll be plagued by the injuries, which have followed him around since the end of last season.

He recently left a training session early with a knee problem and there’s no doubt that the Germans have a better chance of winning this game with Ronaldo ruled out.
