Chelsea prospect and recent Middlesbrough loanee Kenneth Omeruo stood out in a disappointing World Cup game between Nigeria and Iran.

As Nigeria and Iran played out a 0-0 bore draw, one player may have been quietly satisfied with the outcome on a personal level.

Kenneth Omeruo of Nigeria was playing in his first ever World Cup game, and will have been pleased to have got off to a steady start and picked up a clean sheet.

The 20-year-old is a highly rated centre-back, contracted to Chelsea, considered on the cusp of the first team.

He is already an African Nations Cup winner and has enjoyed a successful spell with Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, and most recently becoming a fan favourite at Middlesbrough.

Against Iran he was solid throughout although being in a group featuring Lionel Messi's Argentina - There will be far harder tasks to come.

Iran's attacking threat was very limited which to an extent in turn hampered Omeruo's opportunity to shine, but he rarely gave his opponents a glimpse of an opening.

Omeruo hopes to crack the Chelsea first team and the World Cup is the perfect platform for him to impress manager Jose Mourinho.

The match with Iran was a positive first step along the way, and will be a confidence builder for him ahead of the upcoming clashes with Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Here's a look at what Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Nigeria fans thought about his performance...
