A recent job ad for a software developer to work on multimedia applications indicates they might be.
One thing that PS4 still misses is MP3 playback functionality, gamers wanting to listen to their tunes have seen a number of recent PS4 firmware updates go by without as yet any support for MP3s.
A recent Sony job ad could be showing that this and other media applications could be on the way,
“You will be working on development and maintenance of a suite of multimedia applications developed by SCEE R&D’s Network Team.”
“The role involves design and implementation of new elements, or improvements to the application. This will involve gathering requirements from project stakeholders worldwide, as well as creating design documentation and implementation.”
The Job ad also asks for prior ability to, “review, debug and enhance already produced code,” indicating that the multimedia suite in question is already being built.
Whilst this is pure conjecture at the moment the term suite would seem to refer to more than one application, we’re hopeful at least one of which will be MP3 playback and possibly also video functionality.
If you’re on PS4 at the moment are you missing not being able to play your MP3s? Are you more concerned with the games or do you think that the media centre features common to the PS3 should have been a priority on the PS4? Please use the comments below to have your say.
