Recent reports out of Spain have suggested that Arsenal and Real Sociedad have unofficially agreed to a deal over Mexican striker Carlos Vela.
With Carlos Vela seemingly reluctant to move back to the Emirates stadium, it’s a fantastic deal for Arsene Wenger and one where he can use the money to strengthen other areas of the team.
According to the Spanish publication El Confidencial, however, Arsenal boss Wenger wants more from the deal and has reportedly asked for Real Sociedad right-back Joseba Zaldua.
The 21-year-old starlet has barely featured for the Real Sociedad first-team, making just 10 appearances for the club after predominantly spending the past four seasons in the club’s B team.
Described as an attacking right-back, Zaldua is physically strong and his pace down the right flank gives the player a lot of options when on the ball.
Despite having a contract until 2016, Real Sociedad currently have right-backs Carlos Martinez and Astrada fighting over a first-team spot therefore the Arsenal-linked Zaldua could be allowed to leave.
The North Londoners have a big void to fill following the exit of French international Bacary Sagna, and whilst Joseba Zaldua isn’t the household name supporters are hoping for, Arsene Wenger has a reputation for unearthing gems and there is no reason why the Spaniard can’t be that next big star to adorn the red and white shirt.
