Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has urged Arsene Wenger to go after the signing of Mario Balotelli.

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has urged Arsene Wenger to go after the signing of AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli scored the winner for Italy in their World Cup opener against England last night and Morgan suggested on Twitter that the Frenchman should try and do a deal for the controversial Italian.

Balotelli has been linked with a £20 million move to Arsenal consistently over the last couple of months as Wenger considers his attacking options ahead of next season.

There is real pressure on the Frenchman to make an attacking signing and Balotelli would be a quality addition for several reasons.

He showed last night that when he’s focused and in the mood for a big game, he’s very difficult to cope with showing a good eye for goal and using his physical strength well.

However, the consistent off the field problems may prompt Wenger to go with the options he already has at his disposal.

He’s got two very good centre forwards in the form of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell’s performance for Costa Rica yesterday would suggest Wenger is being naïve if he doesn’t use him next season.

Balotelli would be a real statement of intent by Wenger, as Arsenal look to fight back to the top of the Premier League and win the Champions League for the first time under Wenger’s stewardship.

However, those questions over Balotelli’s character and the way he sometimes lets his emotions literally affect his performance are the reasons Wenger may decide to keep that £20 million in Arsenal’s bank account.
