Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Japan 2-1 in Recife at the World Cup, taking them to second place in Group C.
In the early hours of the morning, Ivory Coast performed a sensational turnaround in Recife, as two goals in as many minutes from Swansea City's Wilfried Bony and ex-Arsenal flop Gervinho turned the game on its head, cancelling out Keisuke Honda's first half strike to give Sabri Lamouchi's men the three points.
However, those goals wouldn't have been possible without right back Serge Aurier. The Toulouse star, 21, looked shaky defensively at times but had a big hand in the comeback, whipping in two sensational crosses to hand the goals on a plate to Bony and Gervinho.
Aurier has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks as Bacary Sagna will leave the Emirates Stadium for Manchester City, and the Ivorian is widely seen as an ideal replacement for the experienced Frenchman. His display against Japan has only added more validity to that notion, and Gunners fans were evidently excited by his display, with a transfer believed to be in the pipeline.
Here are some of the tweets from Arsenal fans about Aurier's performance against Japan.
Aurier crosses brilliantly, it's all good however there has to be more to his game than crosses and runs. #AFC— RightSaidArsene (@airVicConCre) June 15, 2014
Aurier played extremely well last night. Going forward he's naturally gifted. 2 superb crosses. Perfect Sagna replacement #AFC— Riv (@c7Rivaldo) June 15, 2014
Would love Aurier, great cross on him and defensive side should improve with age. Great young talent who only has eyes for Arsenal. #AFC— William (@William_U21) June 15, 2014
We've only seen Aurier display in a single game and he wasn't tested enough defensively. Until then less not exaggerate his quality. #Afc— OOH TO BE A GOONER!! (@Nigerian_Gunner) June 15, 2014
