Costa Rica were superb as they caused one of the biggest upsets of the World Cup so far with a 3-1 win against Uruguay in their opening game at the tournament in Brazil.
The result piles the pressure onto the Uruguayans creating an early type of knock-out game when they meet England later this coming week.
The star of the show for Costa Rica was Joel Campbell, who just seems to get better and better, which bodes well for Arsenal ahead of the new Premier League season.
Campbell has been crying out for a chance to play for the Gunners, producing good form for loan side Olympiakos last season, with a decent spell in La Liga before that move to Greece.
Campbell’s control in possession last night as well as his vision are two things, which could make him a very good player for the Gunners next season.
It’s been well documented that Arsene Wenger needs to make a change in an attacking sense to try and help Olivier Giroud improve even further as well as providing a different option up front.
Campbell is someone the club already owns and the Costa Rican could have eased any doubts Wenger had over his potential last night if he was mulling over the idea of sending him away on another loan spell.
The boss has always maintained that he will never make a change to his first team squad for the sake of doing so, but Campbell looks a far better player than the professional who first came into the club.
He would change the dynamic of Arsenal’s attack because he’s a smaller, quicker player than Giroud but he’s perfectly suited to the way Arsenal traditionally like to play football in a pass and move manner.
Here’s what Arsenal fans had to say about his performance on Twitter.
