Manchester United transfer news: Schweinsteiger not wanted; Song offered

Bastian Schweinsteiger

All the latest news and gossip from Old Trafford this morning.

Barcelona have offered Manchester United their defensive midfielder Alex Song - as new Barca boss Luis Enrique continues to reshape the Catalan side. He sees Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano as his best options in the defensive midfield role next season and the club are willing to accept £20 million for the former Arsenal star.

The Cameroonian, who left The Emirates in a £15 million deal two seasons ago, is believed to prefer a move back to England - following in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas, who left Barca to join Chelsea this week.

However, it is believe United are not keen on a deal.

Manchester United are not chasing Bastian Schweinsteiger. It is reported that Louis van Gaal, who guided Holland to a 5-1 win against Spain last night at the World Cup, is not as keen on the Bayern Munich midfielder as first thought.

Valued at £25 million the German international is reportedly being put up for sale by Pep Guardiola.

United will instead wait until January to sign Kevin Strootman, currently out with knee ligament damage, from AS Roma.

Atletico Madrid do not want Nani - after the Portuguese winger was reportedly offered to Los Colchoneros. The star has struggled for first-team football recently and Van Gaal reportedly has no desire to keep hold of the player.

However that feeling is mutual. Atletico are not keen on the player according to the press in Spain - and will not be moving on the option.
