Manchester United man: Thank God I play with Robin van Persie!

Manchester United's Robin van Persie drew the plaudits, showing what he was capable of on the world stage against Spain.

Netherlands stunned Spain, and the watching world with their comprehensive 5-1 win over Spain.

Central to the victory was striker Robin van Persie, whose spectacular diving header before half-time changed the outlook of the encounter at a crucial stage of the game.

His goal was technically magnificent, and one which got better with every replay, as he finely directed the ball over a helpless Iker Casillas.

He ran to Dutch boss and future United manager Louis van Gaal, aiming a high-five towards the 62-year-old who looked thrilled with the equaliser.

It was a goal which confirmed Van Persie's talent on the world stage, as a player who can produce in the big games - something he has not always done in his career, see United's ties against Real Madrid a couple of seasons ago or before that for Arsenal against Milan.

His performance for Holland however was scarily strong, showing a focus which if he can maintain through the next Premier League season along with his fitness, will put United back in the hunt for trophies.

One United player dazzled by his display was Danish goalkeeper and second choice at Old Trafford, Anders Lindegaard.

Lindegaard has proved an able back-up when called upon for United, and has been linked with an exit to go and play first team football.

The excitement factor to be around Van Gaal and Van Persie however may just tempt him to stay put, and be part of the squad with a world class striker and manager.

If not, you can be sure he will enjoy watching a player he has had the privilege of playing against in training over the last two seasons.
