Confirmed: England line-up for Italy clash – Liverpool target misses out

How many of the Manchester United and Liverpool stars feature in tonight’s Group D game in Manaus?

England will be determined to kick off their 2014 World Cup campaign with victory over Italy in Manaus tonight.

The Three Lions will know that progressing from Group D that also comprises of Uruguay and Costa Rica will not be easy, and that they will have to pick up at least a point tonight.

For the first time in years, the 1966 World Cup winners will head into a major international without their fans expecting too much of them.

Manager Roy Hodgson has picked quite a young squad with many players yet to feature in a World Cup match.

On the other hand, Italy have arrived in Brazil with expectations heaped upon them. Under Cesare Prandelli, the Azzurri have steadily improved and reached the final of the European Championships two years ago.

Italy will head into the tournament as one of the favourites, but they too will know that they will have to be on top of their game right from the start.

Group D could eventually come down to goal difference, and both England and Italy will have to be prepared for that.

Here is how England and Italy will line up tonight:

England XI: Hart; Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines; Gerrard, Henderson; Rooney, Sterling, Welbeck; Sturridge

Italy XI: Sirigu; Darmian, Barzagli, Paletta, Chiellini; De Rossi; Candreva, Pirlo, Verratti, Marchisio; Balotelli
