Portugal's Joao Moutinho says teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is fully fit for the side's opening World Cup game against Germany, despite recent injury scares.

Portugal’s Joao Moutinho says that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is 100% fit ahead of the side’s opening World Cup game against Germany on Monday.

Moutinho’s comments come after the team’s star player was seen leaving training early on Thursday with an ice pack over his left knee, but the Monaco midfielder has moved to quash any immediate concerns over the captain’s fitness.

‘Ever since he started to train with us, he’s been 100% like the rest. Everything is fine with him,’ Moutinho said.

‘There is some caution but not only with him. Today many other players were using ice as well. There is nothing to worry about. It’s normal after training.’

Ronaldo has been suffering with both knee tendonitis and a muscle problem in his left thigh since the end of the domestic season with Real Madrid, which culminated in the side achieving ‘La Decima’ - their historic 10th European title.

Despite returning for Portugal’s final warm-up friendly against the Republic of Ireland earlier this week, there has remained doubt over whether the forward will be fit in time for the match against the Germans in Salvador, with yesterday’s events looking particularly ominous for his chances.

Manager Paulo Bento’s side face a far from easy task progressing from Group G, having also been pitted against the USA and Ghana, but a fit Ronaldo instantly makes them one of the most dangerous teams in Brazil.

Portugal fans will certainly be waiting for news over the next few days with baited breath, praying that the superstar is in the lineup for a game whose result will set the tone for the rest of the group phase.
