Here's the team Chelsea could potentially start next season with.
Chelsea announced a huge deal for Cesc Fabregas earlier this week, as Jose Mourinho completes another piece of superb business for the West Londoners.
The Blues remain firmly fixed with several other players in the transfer market, as the Portuguese coach aims to create a side capable of winning both the Premier League and Champions League next season.
Here’s how the Chelsea team could look at the start of next season with current players and potential signings included.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
Reports this morning suggested that Jose Mourinho may be willing to let Petr Cech leave, which means Courtois would start the season as number one.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
He’s turned himself into the club’s primary right-back and deserves the chance to start there.
CB – Gary Cahill
Presuming Cahill doesn’t get injured at the World Cup, he’ll resume his position as half of the Premier League’s best central defensive pairing last season.
CB – John Terry
The other half comes in the more experienced figured of John Terry. The Chelsea captain will be an important player for the Blues when the new campaign gets under way.
LB – Filipe Luis
A potential new signing from Atletico Madrid and the reason why Chelsea may not have fought with Manchester United over Luke Shaw.
RM – Willian
Willian is one of the most talented attacking players that Chelsea have available. He’ll be better off for a season of English football under his belt.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic is someone who will look to sit and boss the area in front of the back four. He’s a difficult player to get the better of physically and he reads the game well.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas can be the man to replace Frank Lampard in the heart of the team. He’ll set the tempo and pull the strings in the attacking play.
AM – Oscar
Oscar is extremely effective in behind the main striker. He’s great on the ball and feeds all areas of the midfield and attack effectively.
LM – Eden Hazard
Paris Saint-Germain seem to still believe that they can sign Hazard this summer. However, he’s already said he’s looking forward to next season and Chelsea will need him to replicate his form.
ST – Diego Costa
Costa will be a key piece of the Chelsea jigsaw. He can give them that real presence in attack, which they were missing last season.
