Manchester United transfer news: Schweinsteiger bid imminent, Arsenal star in Old Trafford switch?

A round up of transfer stories this morning about Manchester United.

Manchester United are ready to move for Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger according to several reports.

The German midfielder is one of the high profile targets that Louis van Gaal is apparently intent on attracting to the Allianz Arena this summer.

The Evening Standard says United could make an initial bid of £25 million to get the negotiation process started.

The Daily Star claims United lead the race to sign central defender Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal.

The Belgian struggled to stay in Arsene Wenger’s first team last season, which led to speculation over his future.

What United have working against them is the idea that Wenger may be reluctant to sell to a rival after the Robin Van Persie deal.

United are also thought to be mulling over the details of a €30 million bid for Roma star Kevin Strootman.

The Dutchman has been linked with a United move for well over a year and Louis van Gaal is thought to be keen.

The midfielder is injured with a knee problem and is likely to be out of action until early Autumn, which means he’d miss the start of the season.
