According to Ronald de Boer, reported Manchester United target Daryl Janmaat is similar to Dani Alves and has all the attributes to be a big hit in the Premier League.
Feyenoord and Netherlands defender Janmaat is being eyed by Manchester United, where his current national team head coach Louis van Gaal is heading after the summer Word Cup in Brazil.
During De Boer’s interview on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he was asked to comment on the Dutch 24-year-old: "For me, Janmaat is a great attacking full-back. I see him a little bit like Dani Alves.
"He can go along the side for 90 minutes with ease. He is also good defensively. He is a modern right-full back."
Janmaat’s true strengths lie in the threat he offers going forward and while previous concerns arose over the defensive aspects of his game, he has seemingly improved in this area in his efforts to become a permanent fixture in the Feyenoord back-four
|Team||Pos||Pass Acc (%)||Total Pass / apps||Chance Created||Successful Dribbles||Won Tackle / apps||Interception Won / apps||Total Clearance / apps||Apps||Mins|
|Chris Smalling||Man Utd||DF||83||39.52||11||14||1.20||1.04||7.12||25||1,938|
Compared to the Man United’s current options at right-back, Janmaat is far superior in terms of his attacking contribution. Last season, he weighed in with just under 47 passes per match, whilst completing an impressive 27 dribbles. His chance creation also proved influential and he registered five assists in total.
Defensively he is less dominant, but the above statistics still make for positive reading. He averaged a greater number of clearances than both Smalling and Rafael last term.
The task of a modern-day full-back is generally more focused on attack, rather than defense, and Van Gaal is likely to value Janmaat's ability going forward, especially when implementing his philosophy of total football.
