We bring you all the biggest news involving the clubs in the North-East that has broken in the last 24 hours.
1) Newcastle consider Bafetimbi Gomis back-up choice
Newcastle United are interested in free-agent Bafetimbi Gomis, but only if they miss out on other targets, according to the Chronicle.
Gomis has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent weeks, but it appears unlikely that he will sign a deal on Tyneside now – unless the club are unsuccessful in their pursuits of strikers who they are more keen on.
Gomis is a free-agent this summer, after his deal at Lyon has expired, but he is demanding £100,000 a week in wages, meaning he would still be a relatively expensive acquisition for the club and it appears that the Magpies have decided to look elsewhere as a result.
2) Sammy Ameobi knows he must improve to stay at Newcastle
Inconsistent Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi knows he must improve if he is to remain at St James’ Park.
Ameobi has seen his brother, Shola, depart the club this summer and is desperate not to suffer a similar fate, with his contract expiring in 12 months.
“Next season’s the big one for me – it’s my opportunity,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ve got one year left on my contract and I’ve got to prove I’m good enough to be a Newcastle player so I’m going to be working very hard over the summer to hopefully start fast next season.”
3) Sunderland target could head to the United Arab Emirates
Sunderland’s reported main summer target, Moussa Sow, could end up in the United Arab Emirates with Al Jazira.
The club are preparing a €15 million bid for the Fenerbache front-man, according to reports in Turkey, and that could mean that Sunderland miss out.
Gus Poyet is thought to want to add the French striker to his squad as he looks to strengthen it for the upcoming campaign, but may not be prepared to match the fee offered by Al Jazira.
4) Sunderland have to wait on Marcus Alonso
Sunderland will have to wait and see if they are able to sign Marcus Alonso, with Fiorentina keen to assess the full-back’s ability during pre-season.
Alonso spent a successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season and Gus Poyet is thought to be keen to bring the 23-year-old to the club on a permanent basis, but his current club are reluctant to sell at this current stage.
He also will have to deal with the added complication of beating West Ham United to the player, with Sam Allardyce’s side also reportedly interested.
5) Middlesbrough set to sign Diego Sinhorini Ghidoni
Middlesbrough are set to complete a deal to sign Diego Sinhorini Ghidoni, who is the son of former star Doriva.
Sinhorini Ghidoni is a highly-rated 17-year-old who came through at the Brazilian club, Ituano, who are owned by Juninho.
He is now set to make the move to the Riverside, like his Father, where he will go straight into the youth team for the upcoming season.
