Lazar Markovic is a player who has long been on Chelsea's radar, and his performances at Benfica have impressed one outgoing star.
Brazilian defender David Luiz singled out the Serbian in a recent interview, admitting to keeping a close eye on his former club.
He told Globesport: "You know what I like to see? The kids coming through the youth ranks to see if they make it or not.
"One player who I saw a lot and proved his quality was Markovic. His understanding of the game and the number of times he touches the ball are very good."
Markovic made his name playing for Partizan Belgrade a season ago, and was touted strongly for a transfer to Chelsea.
The club's numerous options at attacking midfield seemingly saw them step aside for Benfica to sign him, although rumours remain as to whether the Blues struck a deal with Benfica for a first option on him.
His performances in his debut season have not calmed the hype around the 20-year-old youngster, scoring five Primeira Liga goals on his way to helping Benfica reclaim the title.
Luiz's comments only add to that, and while Markovic and Serbia will not be involved at the World Cup this summer, the attacker will remain a player to watch over the coming seasons wherever in Europe he lands up in the future.
