Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Fabregas to Chelsea transfer

Cesc Fabregas has joined Chelsea on a five-year-deal - splitting opinion between Arsenal fans.

Chelsea have signed Barcelona central midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The former Arsenal captain has signed on a five-year-deal and leaves the Arsenal faithful flabbergasted at how he could join a Premier League and London rival - just two years after departing The Emirates.

The former Arsenal captain was given the fans blessing when he left for his boyhood club. It was a move most could understand and he was generally wished well - on this occasion that is certainly not the case.

In a statement to the official Barcelona website he confirmed Arsenal could have had him - but simply declined the chance to bring him back to North London:

"I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time for my return. Yes, everyone knows that Arsenal had the first option to sign me. They decided not to take this option and therefore it wasn't meant to be. I wish them well in the future. I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice."

The 'unfinished business' he refers to probably alludes to winning the Premier League title - something he never managed in his eight years with The Gunners.

But for the club's fans it is simply not good enough. To join a team with which a fierce rivalry has developed in recent years; a team that is likely to challenge Arsenal at the top end of the Premier League table, is simply not on in the estimations of the Arsenal faithful.

However others have also made it clear that Arsenal had the chance to re-sign the player - and they turned him down. So perhaps calling him a traitor is a little bit harsh.

Clearly it has been a mixed reaction from fans.
