VIDEO: Cristiano Ronaldo makes impressive return from injury

Cristiano Ronaldo

Having missed Portugal's opening two World Cup warm up matches, Ronaldo made a surprise start in his side's 5-1 friendly win over Republic of Ireland.

The Ballon d'Or winner looked in good shape during his 65-minute cameo despite not getting on the scoresheet himself against Ireland.

Starting in his trademark left forward position, Ronaldo was influential in the first half. He hit the post with a free-kick and set up Hugo Almeida for his second goal before playing a brilliant back-heeled through ball to Fabio Coentrao that led to his sides' second goal.

Portugal boss, Paulo Bento, will be mightily relieved that his star man is near to full fitness before they open their World Cup campaign against Germany on Monday.

Having suffered injuries at the end of 2013/2014, Ronaldo missed the previous two Portugal World Cup warm up matches against Mexico and Greece.

Portugal fans will hope their country's record goalscorer will be able to perform to at his highest level in Brazil and lead his side to victory, just as he did in the play-off victory over Sweden. Watch the highlights of his return from inure below.
