Thomas Muller has taken to Facebook after extending his deal at Bayern Munich until 2019.
Last week Thomas Muller was speaking about the future of his career - and cast massive doubt over his future by admitting he was worried about his Bayern Munich career.
He told media in Germany, before jetting off to Brazil to represent his country at the World Cup, that he was not ready to settle for a place on the Bayern bench:
“I have now come to the point where I insist to know that I am part of the starting 11 at Bayern Munich. I have also demanded to know if the club really want to go forward with me in the next few seasons. I am no longer the type who says, ‘OK then, today I will play in this role, next match in that role. Just move me about and I will keep my mouth shut’. No, those days are gone.’’
This almost had the sound of an ultimatum to it - and Manchester United fans were pleased to hear it.
Louis van Gaal had a successful working relationship with Muller during his time as Bayern boss. With that in mind he was apparently their number one target this summer - with a £25 million price-tag being mooted in the press.
But last night it was confirmed that Muller, and Philipp Lahm, had committed their long-term futures to the club by signing new deals at the Allianz Arena.
Muller has now taken to Facebook to express his joy at the decision, which will see him stay at the club until 2019 - saying he was very happy 'to announce that I will stay another 5 years at FC Bayern München. Here is my home. Here is my club.'
Yet another transfer disappointment for Manchester United.
